Research  shows that involving children in music, drama and dance improves their overall performance in school, in society and in turn, enriches the community.  FFA constantly seeks opportunities to reach out and involve new audiences. We are committed to provide a richer education to young people and their families. We do this in numerous ways:

Young Artists Competition - This program allows Virginia’s finest young talent the opportunity to compete.  Contestants must be 18 and younger and come from Fredericksburg and the surrounding counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Caroline, Culpeper, Orange, and Westmoreland. Finalists audition in January and perform in the Chamber Music Festival each June.  Read more about the 2010 competition on our news page!

Classic Theater - FFA now presents theater, including Shakespeare and other classics, so that children can experience the wit and wisdom of the Bard.

Virginia Opera - FFA sponsors performances of the Virginia Opera in local schools each year.

Arts Ambassadors Programs - A mentorship program whereby renowned performers from all major art forms and experienced peers perform and interact with area students, offering their expertise, teaching skills and inspiration to students and teachers involved with the arts.  Artistic Director and 20+-year festival veteran Michael Reynolds is dedicated to supporting education in the region’s schools.

International Series for Children Presentation -  In partnership with the Arts Council of Fairfax County each year, children from all over the world come perform at local schools.  It is a wonderful way for children to understand cultures of other countries through the performing arts!

The Fredericksburg Festival of the Art’s goal is to expand these programs because we believe that the arts inspire and motivate, particularly those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in such world-class cultural experiences.  We are investing in the future through Community Enrichment and Education Through the Arts!
